He is a member of the Advisory Board of The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center at the University of Montana, which promotes a better understanding of Asia, and of U.S. relations with Asia, in the spirit of Senator Mike Mansfield (1903-2001) and his wife Maureen Hayes Mansfield (1905-2000).

In 2007 Bell joined the board of World Vision (Bermuda), a Christian relief and development organization dedicated to helping children and their communities worldwide reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty.

David met his wife, Brittany, in Montana and they have two kids. He maintains strong ties with the state and travels back regularly to visit family and friends. In early 2007, when David and John McCarrick talked about a mutual desire to help the families of our fallen soldiers in Montana…the Grateful Nation idea was born.
