2016 Annual Freedom 5K Run – July 4th 2016
Our Annual Freedom Run is now in its 6th year. Families and friends gather at Brookside Yard in Bigfork at around 8 a.m. for check in and for the start of the run/walk at 9 a.m. and head out along the beautiful and scenic Swan River Nature Trail. We hire Competitive Timing for our start and the finish line and is found right in front of Brookside Yard. At the finish line everyone enjoys original Brookies Cookies and medals! A T-shirt is guaranteed if you register before June 5, 2016(t-shirts will go to print). If you would like to be a part of the Freedom Run and not interested in the walk/run we’d greatly appreciate your energy and help make the event a well oiled machine, we welcome you to visit the Volunteer page on the tab to the left and sign up! Thank you and see you on the 4th at 8 a.m. for check in!
All profits from the race registration will go directly to the Grateful Nation Montana scholarship fund.
Grateful Nation Montana was formed for the specific purpose of facilitating college educations for the children of soldiers killed while on active duty in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Working with a combination of public and private resources, Grateful Nation links eligible students with the financial resources and non-monetary support they will need to have a successful college experience.
Grateful Nation currently focuses solely on providing these resources and support to Montana military families. To date, 43 soldiers from Montana have been killed in these conflicts, leaving a total of 38 children behind.
We target both the financial and educational needs of these children. Even with sufficient financial resources in place, the road to a successful college education may not be assured for these students, who face many hurdles growing up without a parent. Participating colleges and universities provide student tutoring and mentoring to eligible students during their high school years so that these students are academically and emotionally prepared to succeed in college.
